MediaTek has reported consolidated revenues of NT$20.41 billion (US$684.2 million) for May 2018, up 7.3% sequentially and 10.7% on year.

May revenues were also a 6-month high. The company's cumulative 2018 revenues through May came to NT$89.08 billion, down 3.5% from a year earlier.

MediaTek estimated previously second-quarter revenues at between NT$55.6 billion and NT$59.6 billion representing a 12-20% sequential increase. The company's revenues for April and May totaled NT$39.42 billion.

A pick-up in smartphone demand will drive MediaTek's revenue increase in the second quarter, said the company, adding that combined shipments of its smartphone- and tablet-use SoC chips will rebound to 90-100 million units in the second quarter.
