MediaTek has announced consolidated revenues for April 2018 fell 5.5% sequentially but grew 7.1% on year to NT$19.02 billion (US$637.9 million).

MediaTek's cumulative 2018 revenues through April decreased nearly 7% from a year earlier to NT$68.67 billion.

Market watchers expect MediaTek to post monthly revenues between NT$18.3 billion and NT$20.3 million in May and June.

MediaTek estimated previously second-quarter revenues at between NT$55.6 billion and NT$59.6 billion representing a 12-20% sequential increase. A pick-up in smartphone demand will drive the revenue increase, said the mobile SoC specialist, adding that combined shipments of its smartphone- and tablet-use SoC chips will rebound to 90-100 million units in the second quarter.

MediaTek is striving to improve the gross margin of its smartphone SoC line, while shipments of its high-margin IoT and ASIC product segments continue to grow, company CEO Rick Tsai was quoted in previous reports.
