DRAM maker Nanya Technology is engaged in the research and development of 10nm process technology which will be targeted mainly at server and data center applications, according to company president Lee Pei-ing.

Nanya remains focused on DRAM memory, said Lee, adding that the company continues to diversify its offerings with data centers being the next target market.

Nanya has successfully rolled out 20nm-made DDR4 products, which is already ahead of schedule, Lee indicated. Moving forward, the company will introduce its LPDDR4 line manufactured using the advanced process technology, Lee said.

Nanya's development of 10nm process technology will help the company take a part of the data center market boom, Lee noted.

Lee also forecast a healthy supply-demand balance in the DRAM market during 2018. Growth on the supply side is expected to be modest despite capacity expansions at some companies during the second half of the year, according to Lee.

Nanya plans to budget about NT$11.5 billion in capex for 2018, said Lee, adding that the expenditure will be used mainly for advanced process technology and new product development.

Nanya saw its net profits climb to a record high of NT$40.29 billion (US$1.38 billion) in 2017, buoyed by the company's transition to 20nm production technology, more favorable market conditions and rising non-operating income. EPS for the year came to NT$14.36.
