MediaTek obviously can't compete with others in a high-end segment, but it has great offering for entry- and mid-range segments. However, Qualcomm is still a very hard competitor in these segments and the recent price cut of Snapdragon 450 to $10.50 per chip has forced MediaTek to make some changes.

The company is reportedly considering lowering the price of the unreleased Helio P23 to less than $10 per unit. Qualcomm only pay $2,500 per wafer for the Snapdragon 450 SoC, while MediaTek has to pay more than $3,500 to TSMC for the 16nm chipset per wafer.

Some phone manufacturers rumored to have placed orders for the chipset are Oppo, Vivo, Gionee and Meizu.
