Thousands of Microsoft employees will be laid off around the world as part of a large reorganization, reports TechCrunch. With this restructuring, Microsoft is primarily getting rid of people working in sales. No confirmation has been provided, but an announcement is expected this week.

According to sources close to the company, it's going to merge an enterprise customer unit and other SME divisions.

Bloomberg says the redundancies created by this reorganization are "some of the most significant in the sales force in years." Microsoft is working to increases the emphasis on cloud services within its sales team.
