Qualcomm chipsets can be recognized by the official Snapdragon naming, but they also have the official number nomenclature, which starts with MSM and is followed by four digits, e.g. MSM8998 for the Snapdragon 835. After the company announced earlier this year that its chipsets will no longer be referred to as "processors" but as "Mobile Platforms", Qualcomm is bringing another change to the lineup.

Instead of aforementioned MSM nomenclature, the company will now use the SDMxxx naming. For example, the upcoming Snapdragon 845 will be referred to as SDM845 and not MSM9000. We already saw the new naming in several leaked documents back in May, but the company is still using the old nomenclature. One thing is for sure, the new naming will help people to easier recognize Qualcomm's chipsets.
