Last month, Samsung created a separate contract chip manufacturing unit to expand dominance in foundry business. To further strengthen its chip designing and production capabilities, Samsung has relocated about 200 employees from its consumer electronics division to system LSI business unit of device solutions division.

Samsung's semiconductor business consists of three units: fabless, foundry, and memory, and the company is planning to hire at least 1,000 people until 2018 in the SoC industry. The company is doing this because it sees a bright future in these segments and some analysts believe Samsung could be the first to overtake Intel in chip revenue.
