Samsung is on track to surpass Intel in terms of chip revenue by the middle of this year. According to IC Insights, Intel is likely to report $14.4 billion in semiconductor sales at the end of Q2. Samsung will report a higher figure at $14.9 billion, though that's dependent on a maintenance of higher memory chip prices.

At the end of the first quarter, Samsung had $13.5 billion in sales. Intel was still ahead with $14.2 billion.

If Samsung does indeed overtake Intel, it'll be the first time Intel hasn't been ahead in 24 years.

Data from earlier this year showed Intel has a 15.9% market share and Samsung is sitting in second place with 11.8%.
