IC testing house King Yuan Electronics (KYEC) and Aptos Technology, which specializes in backend services for the production of NAND flash chips and devices, have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to jointly provide customers with turnkey packaging and testing solutions for memory chips and devices. The two companies did not disclose further details regarding this cooperation.
KYEC said Aptos' expertise in memory card packaging will complement its final test and burn-in services.
KYEC's major customers include Winbond Electronics and Macronix International Company (MXIC), and memory IC designers Elite Semiconductor Memory Technology (ESMT) and Etron Technology, according to company sources.
Aptos said partnering with KYEC will allow it to minimize depreciation costs and attract orders from customers. Aptos mainly provides total solutions for microSD cards, and has a monthly capacity of eight million units.
Aptos has investment from Phison Electronics, Apacer Technology and Silicon Storage Technology (SST).
Aptos in August 2009 announced it acquired an 87% stake in wafer-level packaging house Advanced Chip Engineering (ACE), whose major shareholders are SST and KYEC.
