Taiwan-based ASMedia Technology has received USB-IF certification for its USB 3.0 host controller chips. ASMedia's shipments of USB 3.0 host controllers will top one million units a month starting the second quarter compared to a total of 1.5 million units shipped in the first.
About half of ASMedia's USB 3.0 host controllers, the ASM1042 chips, will be shipped to Asustek Computer, a major shareholder of the chip vendor.
Additionally, ASMedia has already shipped its USB 3.0 bridge chips to the supply chain for Seagate and Samsung Electronics.
However, Gigabyte Technology has recently switched its orders for USB 3.0 host controller chips from ASMedia to Etron Technology, which is currently shipping the host controllers at a rate of one million units a month, according to industry sources.
