IDC expects 2016 to be the "first full year of declining shipments for Apple's iPhone," while Android has seen a rise in shipments and market share. Even though sales of the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus aren't bad, IDC believes Apple is in for another decline in Q4. That drop in shipments will follow three quarters of year-over-year declines.

Apple may "mix things up" in the coming year to return itself to growth in the smartphone market, predicts IDC.
Global smartphone shipments will be 1.45 billion this year, according to the report, which is up 0.6% over 2015. There will be a 21.3% increase in 4G smartphone shipments, bringing that part of the market to 1.17 billion units. |
