Asustek Computer saw its June consolidated revenues grow 33% on month and 2% on year to reach NT$42.39 billion (US$1.32 billion), but its revenues in the second quarter were down 14.64% sequentially and 5% on year to reach only NT$93.94 billion.

For the third quarter, Asustek is taking a conservative approach about its operations as several worldwide economic uncertainties will continue to impact consumer demand for new products.

Commenting on its weak performance in the second quarter, Asustek pointed out that the company has been aggressively pushing its gaming and high-end ultra-thin notebooks, but its clamshell-type notebook shipments were still seriously impacted by weak PC demand in the Asia market.

The company is also ready to launch its new smartphones for the third quarter and has cut prices for its existing models to stimulate demand. The two factors caused the company's revenues in the second quarter to drop 5% on year.

With Asustek preparing to launch its new ZenFone 3 series smartphones and new notebook products for the third quarter, some market watchers expect the new products to increase Asustek's product ASP and raise its overall revenues in the third quarter.
