Hua Hong Semiconductor is looking to enter the 14nm process segment in 2020, with plans to develop 7nm and 5nm node technologies in the future, according to the China-based pure-play foundry.

Hua Hong indicated its enhanced foundry offerings are to meet customer demand, particularly demand for 5G- and IoT-related chip solutions.

Hua Hong also has plans to build new capacities at its manufacturing sites in Shanghai (Jinqiao, Zhengjiang and Kangqiao) and Wuxi, with a 2020 target of 350,000 wafers in monthly capacity, the foundry said.

In addition, Hua Hong's first 12-inch fab dubbed Fab 5 generated its first annual profit in 2018. The foundry has also moved 28nm process technology to volume production at Fab 6 recently.

Hua Hong's core IC manufacturing business generated revenues of over US$1.6 billion in 2018, when the company shipped more than two million 8-inch wafers. Hua Hong remained focused on the fabrication of power ICs and embedded memory devices.
